PM3D HAWK

Revolutionising large-format scanning for the Décor Industry.

The PM3D HAWK HR7500 pushes to approximately 7500 PPI optical resolution for extreme detail work — micro-textures in leather, stone pore structures, fine art brushstrokes — while delivering 1200 PPI at full 260×155 cm format. For applications where microscopic surface detail is critical.

Two versions

Choose the resolution your application demands.

The PM3D HAWK comes in two versions — both sharing the same large-format platform, 12-direction lighting, dual blue lasers, and SuperScan capability. The difference is resolution ceiling for ultra-fine detail work.

PM3D HAWK HR1200

Production Standard

1200

PPI at full 260×155 cm scan format

The HR1200 delivers 1200 PPI optical resolution across the entire scan area without compromise. Resolution is not limited by scan format — you get full 1200 PPI whether scanning a full-size flooring board or a ceramic tile. The ideal choice for production digitisation of wood, stone, ceramic, textile, and wallpaper originals where throughput and full-format coverage matter.

PM3D HAWK HR7500

Ultra-High Resolution

7500

PPI maximum optical resolution

The HR7500 pushes optical resolution up to approximately 7500 PPI for extreme close-up detail work — capturing micro-textures, fine art brushwork, pore structures in leather or stone that no other large-format scanner can resolve. At full scan format it delivers 1200 PPI — matching the HR1200. The choice when material detail at microscopic scale matters as much as large-format coverage.

Technology

Every feature engineered for production demands.

The PM3D HAWK is not an upgraded flatbed scanner. It is a purpose-built precision imaging instrument for industrial-scale digitisation — combining photographic, photometric, and laser technologies in a single fully automated platform.

01

Large-format open-design platform

Scans up to 260×155 cm in a single acquisition. The open design on all four sides allows oversized originals to extend beyond the table — sections are scanned and seamlessly stitched by the METIS software. There is no practical size limit.

260×155 cm · 200 kg capacity · 130 mm thickness

02

12 independent dimmable light directions

Twelve individually controlled high-CRI LED light sources illuminate the surface from different angles. Each direction can be independently dimmed — giving the operator precise control over how texture, grain, sheen, and embossing appear in the final image. No other scanner offers this degree of lighting versatility.

Green / eco-friendly · Very low consumption

03

Dual blue laser 3D scanning

Two integrated blue lasers perform in-register 3D scanning and precise physical measurement with a maximum Z-resolution of 10 microns. 3D embossing data can be generated via Photometric Stereo, Laser, or a combination — giving you the most accurate 3D data available for engraving, embossing, and CGI applications.

10 micron Z-resolution · In-register with 2D colour

04

Full PBR texture output

The PM3D HAWK is fully PBR-ready — generating all five texture maps required by modern rendering engines: BaseColor, Normal, Roughness, Metalness, and Displacement/Depth. Compatible with most popular CGI and CAD applications. The most accurate way to bring real-world materials into digital environments.

BaseColor · Normal · Roughness · Metalness · Displacement

05

Auto-detect thickness adjustment

The scanner automatically detects and adjusts for original thickness up to 130 mm — no manual focus adjustment needed. Place the material, press scan. The system handles the rest.

Up to 130 mm · Fully automated

06

Very high acquisition speed

Full-format scans are completed in a matter of minutes. The entire capture and post-processing workflow is automated through METIS Scan Director and Light Inspector software — minimising operator intervention and maximising production throughput.

All outputs — perfect register

Every data layer from a SuperScan acquisition is pixel-perfect aligned with every other. No re-registration needed — send directly to production.

SuperScan mode

One scan. every data type.

SuperScan is the PM3D HAWK's single-acquisition mode — capturing colour appearances, 3D photometric data, laser 3D measurements, glossiness, and PBR textures in one fully automated pass. No rescanning. No re-registration. Direct to production.

Variable colour appearances

Capture the material under multiple lighting conditions in a single scan. The METIS Light Inspector then lets you select the ideal appearance — raking light for texture, diffuse for colour accuracy, dramatic side-light for embossing depth.

3D laser measurement

The two blue lasers perform contact-free 3D measurement at 10 micron Z-resolution — precise enough for engraving cylinder production, press plate depth profiling, and ceramic embossing register verification.

Photometric Stereo 3D

Metis's patented Photometric Stereo technique calculates 3D embossing data from the multi-light colour capture — perfectly registered with the colour image. Used for Normal Map generation and surface structure analysis.

Glossiness / Roughness map

Unique to Metis scanners worldwide — the PM3D HAWK captures the specular reflection properties of every point on the surface, generating a Glossiness Map that enables precise varnish spot channels, metallic layer creation, and PBR Roughness maps.

PBR texture pack — all 5 maps

A complete PBR-ready material pack is generated from a single SuperScan: BaseColor, Normal, Roughness, Metalness, and Displacement/Depth maps — compatible with Unreal Engine, Unity, V-Ray, Arnold, Cinema 4D, and all major rendering platforms.

Fully automated workflow

METIS Scan Director and Light Inspector software automate the entire capture and post-processing pipeline. Place the original, initiate SuperScan, collect five registered output files. No manual intervention between scan and export.
